Our fencing programs introduce the Ashburn, Sterling, Reston and other Northern Virginia/Loudoun/Fairfax County area students to the many benefits of this Olympic sport. Beyond the fitness benefits, fencing promotes intellectual development, decision making skills, self discipline and confidence. All taught in a safe, supportive environment. First visit is always free.
Beginners welcome all year. If you have some experience already, please contact us and we will find the best program for your age and level. We offer flexible enrollment, so if you miss a week or two, we will assign you an assistant coach and catch you up.
Our club has programs for ages six to eighty+ at all levels from beginners and recreational fencers all the way up to the World Championships team and Olympic hopefuls.

Ilya has worked with internationally competitive programs for over 33 years. Some notable results from his students include:

Ilya has served as the USA Team coach at multiple World Cups. Every champion starts as a beginner and Ilya works with each fencer at their pace while always shooting for the stars.

Doug Tableman has worked with fencers at all levels, from high school leagues to international world cups. His personalized approach allows him to tailor his coaching for every student, meeting their specific needs. Coach Doug still competes locally and Nationally and some notable results from his students include:

As an athlete, Doug is rated "A2024" and competed on the Div 1 National Circuit while finishing his MBA at St. Johns. He understands the variety of demands that his students face, and is committed to helping them reach their goals in sports and academics.

José began his fencing career almost three quarters of a century ago, well before the
electrification of fencing weapons He has studied with some of the most successful fencing
coaches in the United States, including the legendary Hugo Costello who won ten National
Intercollegiate Championships as coach of the New York University Fencing Team in the 1950s
and 1960s and former Hungarian Olympic Team Coach, Istvan Danosi, who won seven
National Intercollegiate Championships as coach of the Wayne State University Fencing Team
in the 1970s and 1980s. Before retiring from fencing, José was nationally ranked in the top ten
in the Veteran Men’s Epee 60+ Division for three consecutive years. He is returning to fencing
(¨Retirement is boring.¨) and will be sharing his fencing knowledge and experience as part of our
CFA Team as well as returning to national competition in the Veteran’s Men’s Epee 70+
Division.
Bart Weathington, Ph.D will be joining our support team as seasoned sport psychologist, offering his services in 20 minute sessions that can be scheduled like a fencing lesson. He will also be joining our tournament support team and help sharpen our team's mental game to manage motivations, improve focus, confidence and the journey through sport overall. He served as Director of the Graduate Program in Industrial-Organizational Psychology and UC Foundation Professor in the Department of Psychology at The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Dr. Weathington followed a nontraditional route into academe by working as a management consultant delivering organizational performance solutions.
